The Interlocken Festival has announced that
two legendary New Orleans bands, The Soul
Rebels and Dirty Dozen Brass Band, will play a
single interlocking set on Friday, September 6
in between the Founding Fathers and Jimmy
Cliff’s sets.
Trumpet player Gregory Davis of the Dirty
Dozen Brass Band uses a New Orleans-centric
analogy to describe their 35 years of making
music: “It ends up being like a pot of gumbo –
you drop in a little okra, drop in a little
shrimp, you drop in some crabs. Before you
know it, you’ve mixed in all these different
ingredients and you’ve got a beautiful soup.
That was our approach to music early on and it
still is today.”
An appetite for musicological adventure, a
commitment to honor tradition while not being
constrained by it, and a healthy sense of
humor have brought the world-traveling Dirty
Dozen Brass Band to this remarkable juncture
in an already storied career.
The Soul Rebels continue charting new
territory today. Called “the missing link
between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong” by
the Village Voice, the Soul Rebels combine
topnotch musicianship and songs with grooves
that celebrate life in time-honored New
Orleans style.
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and The Soul
Rebels will bring some New Orleans flavor to a
lineup that already includes Neil Young & Crazy
Horse, Furthur (three nights), Widespread
Panic (two nights, including a set with John
Fogerty sitting in), The String Cheese Incident
(two nights, including a Zac Brown Incident set
with Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band), The
Black Crowes (two nights) Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi
Trucks Band, Warren Haynes Band, Jimmy
Cliff, Keller & The Keels, Punch Brothers and
more.
Tickets to the Interlocken Festival are now on
sale for $249, but the price will be increasing
to $285 no later than Thursday, July 25 at
10am ET. You can still get your $249 tickets
here while supplies last.
